SecureAuth for Microsoft Outlook Web Access

Web-based email has become one of the most exposed applications for businesses today. It contains a company’s most confidential information, yet is one of the least secure applications within the enterprise. Username and passwords give false security to the end-user; companies seek a stronger form of authentication that does not require tokens or proprietary software to download.

SecureAuth seamlessly integrates into existing infrastructure and allows the enterprise to control access to Web mail from anywhere, at anytime. Even public kiosk access can be protected with SecureAuth’s hourly and daily certificate feature. The industry’s only browser-based strong authentication solution with complete out-of-the-box integration to Microsoft Outlook Web Access (OWA), SecureAuth allows the enterprise to easily deploy a secure authentication solution for e-mail access in a matter of hours. SecureAuth integrates directly into your Exchange Server and Active Directory with no additional enterprise coding and no API development.

Until SecureAuth, there were three options available to do this:

1. Username/Password:

  • Not secure, easy to phish, replay, man-in-the-middle attack

2. Tokens

  • Expensive to license
  • Expensive to maintain
  • Cumbersome for end user to carry

3. PKI

  • Very expensive
  • Virtually impossible to deploy and maintain
  • Requires client side SSL, very painful for users and the enterprise IT staff

SecureAuth ensures that the user is authorized before their browser is registered. By using an out-of-band phone call, text message, or email with a randomly generated one-time PIN, the user is securely identified. SecureAuth registers the user with a X.509 credential using SecureAuth’s patent pending process and web services.
